CS Álamos
Where: Located on the Morgado resort the course is in a rural location in the Monchique hills.
What: This is a real rural retreat of a course with no golf front properties and plenty of chances to admire the local scenery and wildlife.

CS Morgado
Where: Found on the road between Portimão and Monchique. Well sign posted and easy to find.
What: The longest course in the Algarve and a tricky one to master. Sporadic building works continue around the countryside course which has a clubhouse with amazing views.

Pestana Alto
Where: Off the main road to Alvor (Estrada de Alvor)
What: Designed by Sir Henry Cotton this course has an infamous par 5 hole that is a massive 600 metres in length. A classic course with a challenging layout.
Fees: Membership starts at €500 for a play and play package which also allows use of the other Pestana courses. Non member green fees vary between €50 and €100 depending on the time of year.

Penina
Where: Follow the EN125 in the direction of Portimão, pass the turn off for Portimão and Alvor and the entrance to the resort can be found on the left.
What: The Sir Henry Cotton course, academy course and resort course all make up Penina and was the first course in the Algarve.
Accepted as the home of golf in the Iberian Peninsula, this is a slice of golfing history.

Pestana Silves
Where: Take the road to Lagoa then head towards Silves. The course can be found on the Lagoa side of the town.
What: This one is a nice, easy walk through the real Algarve countryside. Opened in 2006 the course has mountain views and is flanked by the orange groves and fields of cork trees.

Oceânico O´Connor Jnr
Where: Take the EN125 in the Faro direction and travel down to the Alcantrilha roundabout. At the roundabout turn towards Silves and the course can be found on the right hand side.
What: Designed by Christy O´Connor Jnr and opened in October 2008 the course sits in the lush inland valley. There are many water features and the course is kept in immaculate condition.
Fees: Costs vary depending on the season but cost around €155 for 18 holes.

Oceânico Faldo
Where: Take the EN125 in the Faro direction and travel down to the Alcantrilha roundabout. At the roundabout turn towards Silves and the course can be found on the right hand side.
What: Nick Faldo designed this course which opened in September 2008. Considered to be the more challenging of the two courses at the Amendoeira resort the hilly terrain makes a buggy an essential part of the game unless you are one of those very fit types!
Fees: Costs vary according to the time of the year. 18 holes costs around €16, including the hire of a buggy.

CS Salgados
Where: Take the EN 125 towards Faro and turn off after Alcantrilha in the direction of Armação de Pêra before turning again to the back road to Albufeira. If you know where the Guia Apolonia supermarket is then you are nearly there.
What: Watch out for the water here and be prepared to lose a few balls in one of the many water features on the course located within a natural park. Bird watchers will be able to spot many breeds in the area, including a few endangered species.The course is part of the self contained Salgados resort complete with a health club and spa.
Fees: Fees change according to the time of year but expect to pay between €45 and €100 for 18 holes.
